IDS Group was established in 1998 as Integrated Design Services by Dr. Said Hilmy, a reputable and award-winning structural engineer, to offer structural design and forensic engineering consulting services. From its initial project successes with clients including Intel Corporation, Whittier Union High School District, and Pacific Health Corporation, efficient business practices and core values drove the firm's mission and vision. Dr. Rami Elhassan, a well-known structural engineer in California with numerous industry-related publications to his credit, joined the firm in 2000 as a partner. With combined energy and resources, both Dr. Hilmy and Dr. Elhassan used their experience and knowledge to develop the infrastructure of a fully-integrated, multi-disciplinary engineering company.
Less than a decade later, the vision became a reality with a series of successful acquisitions of several specialty engineering firms. With a name change in 2007 to encompass a broader realm of scope, IDS Group now provides complete engineering and management services to some of the top public and private institutions in the United States.
The mechanical and plumbing engineering discipline of IDS Group is staffed by Mr. Ray Cranston and his group of highly-skilled technical professionals. In 1964, Mr. Cranston joined the firm of FT Andrews, established in Fullerton, California in 1960 to offer mechanical engineering services. Over its 50-year history, FT Andrews expanded to a staff of 40, completing thousands of projects for public and
private agencies involved in education, healthcare, hospitality, microelectronics, and the aerospace industries. FTA Andrews joined IDS Group in 2008.
The electrical engineering discipline of IDS Group has its root in DGM & Associates, a company established by Mr. Dale Madler in 1992 to provide quality electrical engineering services through offices in Costa Mesa and Riverside, California. Within ten years, DGM serviced clients throughout the Western United States with a professional staff exceeding 40. Mr. Madler and his staff joined IDS Group in 2009 to provide a comprehensive list of electrical engineering services to public agencies and developers.
Mr. Robert Popov, a noted expert in the fields of power generation and mechanical engineering, started his practice as Popov Engineers in 1975 from two offices in Newport Beach and San Diego. When renewable energy, thermal energy storage, distributed power generation, and wasted energy recovery were gaining momentum, Popov was implementing the newest technologies available in their projects. In 1985, Popov Engineers added a new office in Honolulu. Their accomplishments through innovative design and diversified applications of mechanical and electrical engineering concepts contributed to their success and expansion of services throughout the US, Asia, and Europe. Over the past 35 years, Popov completed more than 3,000 projects, served over 500 clients, and worked in fourteen
foreign countries. From their offices in California and Hawaii they served the Department of Defense, completing various projects for 38 military bases. Most of the projects have been under a prime contract and many of them with an emphasis on power generation, energy conservation, alternative energy sources, and systems commissioning. In 2009, IDS Group welcomed Mr. Popov and his staff, forming our power and energy business unit.
In 2010, IDS Group broadened its multi-disciplinary appeal when Mr. Ebbie Nakhjavani and a group of professionals from EKN formed our civil engineering business unit. Established in 1990 by Mr. Nakhjavani, EKN provided land development, civil engineering, and survey services to an elite group of private and public clients through a staff of more than 70 in offices in Irvine, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. By establishing the civil engineering discipline, IDS Group provides added-value by streamlining our integrated design services through a multi-disciplinary suite of engineering and management services under one roof.
